Right Murder (Library Crime Classics)
Published in Paperback by International Polygonics, Ltd. (July, 1991)
Average review score:

The most interesting and entertaining book I ever readThis was the most interesting and entertaining book I ever read. Only on a couple of occasions have I read a book; non-stop and all the way through from the first page to the last. This book is very well written, has a twisted plot and the characters are very real. It is also quite hilarious. Two thunbs up: the feel good hit of the 30's

The Rinehart Handbook for Writers
Published in Hardcover by International Thomson Publishing (March, 1990)
Average review score:

A Book For EveryoneI bought this book when I was in college for an english class and I have found that it was as helpful then as it is now. I use it for light technical writing at work and also as a reference for basic grammar errors. It is filled with great information... there are so many things that I have realized I never knew, and I was an ENGLISH major in college! Great book to have at your desk as a reference.

A stunning collection of road photographyJames Fee is one of our most underrated photographers. His dark, contemplative work speaks of an America long-gone and never to return. The prints are gorgeous and really serve the subject matter. Buy, buy buy.

The Road to Love Canal : Managing Industrial Waste before EPA
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Texas Press (February, 1996)
Average review score:

For Responsible Decision MakersThis is an outstanding book that deals with the history of industrial hygiene and risk management. In a step-by-step fashion, the authors walk the reader through the development of large-scale chemical production plants and their need to deal with the waste associated with their production process. The changes from prior to 1930s to the 1950s and into the 1970s shows distinct changes in how industry addressed industrial waste. It is a refreshing approach to see an explanation of how industry slowly developed their procedures based on their dealings with the public and government, without the usual bias against management as evil-doers and tree-killers.
The authors discuss the understanding of industrial wastes and developing rationale with no appologies, but do it in a concise fashion that is readable to the layman as well as professionals. The section discussing how decision makers can be influenced by this information is particularly good-reading. The authors end by discussing several case studies (of course, Love Canal is one of them) and identifying the mistakes made in each case. This is the real lesson of the book - if we can't learn from our mistakes, how will we ever improve?

Roadside Wildflowers of the Southern Great Plains
Published in Hardcover by Univ Pr of Kansas (June, 1991)
Average review score:

A Must for the Prairie Wildflower EnthusiastMy book is tattered because I've used it so much. I like it because it covers all the common species of the southern plains. In addition, it gives plant range and habitat information to aid in identification. Plus the pictures are top notch.

Rosy's Visitors
Published in Hardcover by Candlewick Press (June, 2002)
Average review score:

Sweet Story, Beautiful IllustrationsMy daughter Rosy loves this book! Not only does the main character have a very nice name, but the story of finding a house and having a party is so sweet. The drawings are beautiful, colorful, and aimed at a child audience. (Sometimes other lavishly illustrated books seem to be too sophisticated for young children.) We may have to buy another copy, as we are wearing this one out.

Sacred Images: A Vision of Native American Rock Art
Published in Paperback by Gibbs Smith Publisher (June, 1996)
Average review score:

Rock Art Brought to LifeNo one really knows what was in the minds of the people who made the prolific, and mysterious rock art of the southwest. Therefore most reputable books on rock art simply describe in dry archeological detail the design elements and locations of the various panels. Leslie Kelen is more of an oral-historian than a scientist. He simply recorded the words and stories the modern Native Americans tell about the art in their area. He combined this with a fine, scientifically accurate introductory essay on ancient cultures, and spectacular photography. The result is a real experience of Canyon Country Rock Art. The book captures the beautiful inscrutability of the rock art and some of the best stories commonly told about it. Many of the local Native Americans are both steeped in their native heritage, and well aware of the scientific community's analysis. This is not a book for scientists. It is a book for people fascinated with the southwest and who wish to add new colors and possibilities to their ruminations on rock art. This is a book for visitors to the southwest who want to see more deeply into the landscape they are traveling through. I have been a guide in the southwest canyon country since 1996, and this is the number one rock art book I recommend to clients.

A Sailor's Valentine: Stories
Published in Paperback by Parnassus Imprints (June, 1999)
Average review score:

Great stories!I have a suspicion that Sebastian Junger had this book open next to him when he was writing "The Perfect Storm." But there is one critical difference: Craig Moodie, in this work of fiction, paints his characters far more truly and originally than Mr. Junger did in his work of non-fiction. Anyone who has read Junger's book should read this one to see what life at the mercy of the sea is really like.

Science Encyclopedia (Encyclopedias Series)
Published in Library Binding by Edu Dev (February, 1998)
Average review score:

Science is fun!I like this book very much! Now I know how long the Roman numerals had been used in Europe. And lot of other science factors, such as "how things work" and "how energy works". The pictures in the book is just amazing, it helps a lot for kids like myself to understand the way things work. I think it is a great book!
